The intolerance of women in today’s society is the driving force behind the this collection of work, it explores the roles, rules and boundaries placed upon the individual by a heterosexual and patriarchal society. Focusing on the constraint and restriction of gender, the individual pieces confine the wearer within a space, creating a physical boundary.
The dichotomies that our society follows such as gender (masculine and feminine), beauty (beautiful and ugly) are too narrow, they restrict our experiences. Through wearing the collection the wearer and the viewer consider this narrow boundary and the restriction that it has upon their experiences, they may wish to consider the role they play in society and their learned ideals.
This collection featured at ‘Treasures’ exhibition during London Jewellery Week. The monochrome and perspex brooch was sold at the Worshipful Company of Horner’s annual charity event and received a highly commended recommendation.
